AEG Gearsets

SOLINK offers a wide range of airsoft gear ratios for different AEG upgrade needs. If you want a high RPS build, we recommend lower ratios such as 10.8:1, DSG 9:1, or the more extreme DSG 5.4:1. If you want a balanced setup between speed and durability, 14.4:1 gears are a strong choice. Traditional 13:1 gearsets are also available. If you need a high-torque AEG build, 18:1 gears are recommended to trade speed for greater torque. Some customers also choose 16:1 for their setups. Important note for beginners: upgrading an AEG gearbox is not only about replacing gears. It may also involve choosing the right spring, short-stroking, delay devices, shimming and other adjustments. Incorrect combinations may damage your gearbox, so please check compatibility before upgrading.

Helical gears use a slanted tooth profile that increases the contact surface and improves the meshing angle. This usually reduces gearbox noise and creates a crisper, smoother sound compared with standard straight-cut gears. Lightened, or skeletonised, gears have lower weight and lower rotational inertia. This can improve response and place slightly less stress on the motor during operation. Both helical gears and lightened gears require more complex manufacturing, which makes them more expensive than standard airsoft gears.

Generally, gears from different ratios should not be mixed, except for the pinion gear. In a few gear ratio sets, the bevel gear may be interchangeable. However, we strongly recommend purchasing and installing a complete gearset to avoid compatibility issues, poor meshing, increased wear, or damage to other gears.

Yes. When an AEG has a high RPS, the cam position on a traditional sector gear may activate the tappet plate too early. This can cause the nozzle to open prematurely and may result in a drop in full-auto velocity. To solve this, SOLINK developed a timing-shifted sector gear, also known as a delay or advanced-timing sector gear, which adjusts the cam timing for high-speed builds. Choose based on your build needs. For common ratios such as 18:1, 16:1 and 13:1, SOLINK ships the standard non-timing-shifted version by default. If you need the timing-shifted version, please leave a note when placing your order.

Yes. Helical gearsets should be paired with a compatible helical pinion gear to ensure correct tooth contact, smoother meshing and better durability. The Solink team already includes a matching helical pinion gear with each helical airsoft gearset order by default.
